All Fordham campuses closed at 1 p.m. due to freezing rain and hazardous road conditions.

Due to dangerous weather, all Fordham campuses closed at 1 p.m. Robert Fitzer, associate vice president of Public Safety, sent an email to the Fordham community on Feb. 4 detailing university operations for the remainder of the day.

Classes after 1 p.m. are no longer held in person, but online classes will continue as planned. Professors may contact their students with further instructions regarding classes.

Ram Van service was also affected by this announcement. The last van left from Rose Hill at 1 p.m. and the last van leaving from Lincoln Center left at 2 p.m.

“It was not only inconsiderate but negligent of Public Safety to cancel Ram Van service half an hour before the last van was due to leave.” Cole Angelillo, Fordham College at Lincoln Center ’24

Cole Angelillo, Fordham College at Lincoln Center ’24, is a Ram Van employee who was in the Ram Van office when the Public Safety announcement was made. He noticed many people had just arrived from Lincoln Center for their 1 p.m. classes only to have to turn around and not be able to take a Ram Van back.

“It was not only inconsiderate but negligent of Public Safety to cancel Ram Van service half an hour before the last van was due to leave,” he said. “By the time people found out, all the vans were fully reserved and many were stranded at Rose Hill, scrambling to find their own way back.”

Angelillo added that people were concerned about the price of a Metro-North ticket to Grand Central and considered walking 20 minutes in the rain to the D train subway station. He also saw people pooling money in order to take an Uber.

Marketplace at Rose Hill and Community Dining at Lincoln Center will continue to operate normally, but other campus venues may close early depending on the availability of staff. The Ram Fit Fitness Center at Rose Hill will continue to stay open, and the fitness center at Lincoln Center will remain closed.

Counseling and Psychological Services will also continue to operate normally at both the Lincoln Center and Rose Hill campuses.

The Law Library, along with Walsh and Quinn libraries, will remain open until 9 p.m., but the Fordham Westchester Library is closed.

Fitzer noted the possibility of power outages and issued instructions to prepare in case of one, since the storm may be worse than predicted. He also advised members of the Fordham community to be cautious when walking around campus and to avoid walking under or near large trees.

The National Weather Service warning will continue into Saturday morning, Feb. 5.
