Empathy, Connection and Normalcy: Perspectives on Disability and Daily Life

In this episode of Retrospect, host Shine (FCLC ’27) sits down with Fordham students Leah Zelaya (FCLC 29) and Idman Loyan (FCLC 29) for an honest discussion about disability, race and body image. Leah shares her advocacy journey living with a rare neuromuscular condition, while Idman reflects on navigating life as a Black Somali woman confronting both racism and her own past experience with ableism. By tackling difficult questions about discrimination, accessibility and what it means to truly see one another, they promote a shared space based on honesty, rather than perfection.
