On April 26, Fordham University English Professor Alvin Eng will host an “open studio” performance in room 109 of McMahon Hall from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. with his creative writing class, Performing & Telling Your Life. In this course, students study the difference between writing for the stage and writing for the page, discussing the nuts and bolts of first-person storytelling. Each student will perform a five-minute excerpt from their autobiographical pieces for the course. Links to their pieces can be found below.

A note from Professor Eng:

“Self-expression, not self-indulgence, has been the mantra of this course. For the past three months, I’ve had the pleasure of helping this amazing group of students tell their stories through playwriting, spoken word, creative non-fiction and multimedia collage. On Thursday, April 26, we will have an “open studio” class. The students will present five-minute excerpts from longer pieces they have been working on. Everyone is invited to observe and comment on our process. Here is a sampling of the works that will be performed this Thursday. I hope you can join us.”
