At least two additional Fordham student visas have been revoked since as early as Thursday, May 8, according to a university official.
The two affected students are different from the four students whose visas were revoked in early April, Fordham Spokesperson Bob Howe explained over email.
Howe said that the way revocations have worked this time around has been different. The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVIS) records — which Fordham can monitor — have “remained active,” he said, even while visas have been revoked. The U.S. Department of State is notifying students directly through the email addresses used to file their original visa applications, and not notifying the university at all.
“Therefore, the University is only aware of revocations in those situations where impacted students notify Fordham’s Office of International Services,” Howe said.
He also said that, as far as the university is aware, no faculty visas have been revoked at this time.
On Tuesday, May 13, Fordham’s Director of the Office of International Services (OIS) Salvatore Longarino sent an email out to international students explaining the situation.
Longarino said that these revocations mean that “the international student or faculty member may stay in the U.S. to continue their studies or scholarly work, but if they leave the U.S., they will not be readmitted.”
He urged students to keep a close watch on their personal email accounts, and contact their legal counsel “to ensure you are informed of any changes in your visa status.”
Longarino ended the email by telling students that if they have any questions, they should “reach out to OIS anytime at 718-817-3145 or [email protected].”
In the case of immigration-related emergencies, students are advised to contact Public Safety.
