Keith Urgo, Fordham’s Men’s Basketball head coach has been let go according to Fordham University Athletics, who announced the decision on March 20. This announcement comes after the university imposed a four game self-suspension on Jan. 16. The self-suspension was due to an ongoing investigation by the NCAA into the program for potential recruitment violations. During Urgo’s suspension, assistant coach Tray Woodhall took over the team.
The 2024-25 season was Urgo’s third with the Rams, after he was promoted to the head coach position in 2022 following the departure of Kyle Neptune. Urgo showed great potential during his first season with Fordham, winning 2022-23 Atlantic 10 (A10) Coach of the Year after leading the Rams to a tied-second place finish in the A10 with a 25-8 record.
Urgo’s departure as head coach of Fordham’s program also comes after their A10 Championship run ended with a loss to George Washington in the second round. The loss cemented them with a last place standing in the conference and a 12-21 record this season.
Over the last two seasons, the Rams had a combined record of 25-41, with struggles both on and off the court. Fordham Athletics announced on the Fordham Athletics page their decision to “commence a national search for its next head coach.”
The Fordham Athletics Department is unable to comment anything further than their official statement on their website at this time.
