This Is All You Need to Know If You’re Craving Food on the Go

By BEATA CHEREPAKHINA

Forget sit-down restaurants; some of the best places to eat in New York City are actually on wheels. No, we’re not talking about the gyro stands or hot dog carts; we’re talking about gourmet food trucks. Food trucks offer everything from scrumptious soups to decadent desserts and are constantly on the move all around the city.

Enjoy the warm weather by walking over to Tavern on the Green and enjoying some soup from the Ladle of Love Truck (right) or some ice cream from the Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream Truck (left). (Courtesy of Anastasiya Holubyeva)

We’ve created a list of the four food trucks definitely worth a try and  often found in the vicinity of Fordham College at Lincoln Center.

Wafels & Dinges
For Truck Locations: Call 1-866-429-7329 or check out their twitter http://twitter.com/waffletruck.

Do you often find yourself wishing for waffles at all hours of the day? If so, wish no further because Wafels & Dinges has your waffle fix. Wafels  & Dinges, German for waffels and things, offer cooked-to-order waffles with toppings of your choosing. Choose either the light ’n crispy Brussels wafel or the soft ’n chewy Liege wafel and then pile on the toppings. Choices include Nutella (a hazelnut chocolate spread), Belgian chocolate fudge, dulce de leche, walnuts, butter, bananas, real maple syrup, strawberries, whipped cream and Spekuloos Spread (exclusive to the Wafel & Dinges truck).  Once you try the sweet creations of the Wafels & Dinges truck, you’re sure to be back for more.

Recommendation: De Throwdown Wafel, $6: Topped with Spekuloos Spread and whipped cream. This wafel beat Bobby Flay and if a Food Network chef’s impressed, you’re sure to be, too.

Sweetery NYC
For Truck Locations: Check out their website, sweeterynyc.com.

If your sweet tooth has been giving you fits in class, find the nearest Sweetery truck and indulge. This confection heaven offers cupcakes, mini loaf cakes, cookies, muffins and more.  Snack on their mouth-watering Macarellas, which are macaroon cookies filled with Nutella, or create your own tantalizing treat by ordering a croissant or brioche and filling it with just about anything you please. Filling options include pastry creams (vanilla, chocolate, mocha and praline), preserves, marshmallow cream, honey, Nutella, dulce de leche, peanut butter, almond butter and cashew butter. And trust us when we say that any one of these sweets is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Recommendation: Red Velvet Whoopie Pie, $2: This sweet treat combines moist red velvet cake with gooey marshmallow fluff, a combination so gratifying you’ll be left screaming “Whoopee.”

Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream Truck
For Truck Locations: Check out their website, Vanleeuwenicecream.com.

There’s no better way to cool down on a hot city day then with some ice cream. But before you go running towards the nearest Mr. Softee, give the Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream truck a try. Their ice cream is made using only fresh local natural products and the high quality definitely comes across in the taste. Try traditional flavors such as vanilla, chocolate and pistachio or be bold and experience the ginger, red currant or Earl Grey Tea flavors. Though the price may be a bit on the high side, this delectable treat is completely worth it.

Recommendation: Small Cup or Cone of Hazelnut Ice Cream, $3.95: Whether or not you go nuts for nuts, this flavor is sure to leave you delighted. This flavor perfectly marries sweet vanilla ice cream with bite size pieces of hazelnuts.

Ladle of Love
