Producing a Newspaper in a Pandemic
September 18, 2020
When the COVID-19 pandemic closed campus in March, The Observer had to shift the production process of the newspaper to a fully online format for the first time and will still be producing this way throughout the fall semester. Members of The Observer’s editorial board discuss their experiences in this virtual landscape and explain how they have collaborated to create fully digital issues of the paper. To see all virtual issues, visit The Observer’s Issuu page.
This video was edited by Alison Ettinger-DeLong with additional graphics and footage by Mateo Solis Prada and Kevin Christopher Robles.

Alison Ettinger-DeLong, Fordham College at Lincoln Center ’23, is the multimedia editor for The Observer. She is a dual sociology and urban studies major. Alison’s favorite part of creating multimedia content is making graphics and editing videos. She also loves discussing intersecting social demographics, caring too much about fonts and eating lots of vegetarian sushi.

Mateo Solis Prada, FCLC ’22, is an editor for the multimedia section and a visual arts major. When he is not working on projects for The Observer, he can be found taking photographs around the city, or in the kitchen making carbonara and listening to soul music.
