“My exhibition, How the rib began, is comprised of photographs I made of the house I grew up in. My family’s preoccupation with safety kept me inside that house for most of the eighteen years I spent there. Enough time can transform a ‘safe’ environment into a place that is oppressive, almost hostile in its familiarity, so these photographs are my attempt to navigate the interiors I have occupied the longest and understand the least. The photographs were made digitally, at night, using only the natural, ambient light from the house itself, without any interference from natural sunlight or professional lighting setups, to create a completely hermetic and self-contained environment.”

There is no time to linger, no time to fully comprehend, hence the photograph is grasped at surface level, in the transient light or peculiar shadow. What is shown is not readily recognizable from each place, but rather addresses the light and placement of objects specific to the in-between moments. Snap! And I walk off quickly…”
