Student Retracts Sexual Assault Claim
September 30, 2015
On Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 5:51 p.m., members of the Fordham community received an update on the sexual assault report they had been informed of the previous Sunday, Sept. 27, via a Public Safety announcement.
According to the email, “the NYPD’s Bronx Special Victims Unit conducted a thorough investigation with the cooperation of Fordham’s Department of Public Safety, including the collection of video and physical evidence, and determined that the alleged assault had not taken place.”
The student informed Public Safety on Wednesday that in fact that assault did not occur and investigations on the incident have been subsequently closed.

While we all agree that sexual assault is a heinous crime, shouldn’t we wonder why those who make false claims are not equally punished as those who commit crime? How is this class “closed”, and why isn’t this false accuser in jail? Wouldn’t it be different it the accuser were a male? This is beyond horrifying.

While The Observer does not take an official stance on this, it is important to note that this assault allegedly happened off campus by non-Fordham students.

Assuming the college punishes men found guilty if sexual assault, it is a violation of Title IX for the college to fail to prosecute women who make false accusations.
