Fordham Introduces OASIS Replacement

OASIS, Fordham’s online student resource program, will soon be replaced with more “up-to-date” software that will make registering for courses easier, said Robert Moniot, associate dean of Fordham College at Lincoln Center (FCLC).

The new program, called Banner, will be open around the clock, everyday—unlike OASIS, which is only open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday through Thursday and 7 a.m. through 6 p.m. on Fridays.

“OASIS is running on very old hardware and software. It’s essentially the same system [that was around in the late 1980s,]” Moniot said. Banner, according to Moniot, is produced by the same company as OASIS, but is more current.

Moniot said that Banner can be used 24/7 because the system is able to do backups and updates while it is open, as opposed to OASIS, which cannot.

Banner will only be accessible through the MyFordham.edu portal—whereas OASIS was accessible without a portal and through Fordham.edu—which is why it is crucial that students claim their MyFordham IDs.

“Otherwise,” said Moniot, “students won’t be able to register for fall courses.” Students can claim their MyFordham IDs by going to My.Fordham.edu.
