The Fordham College at Lincoln Center’s (FCLC) intramural softball team Jean-Claude Ram Van (JCRV) lost their season opener to Rascal Crew 11-5 on Sept. 15. The loss dropped JCRV to eighth place in the 11-team league.

According to team captain and pitcher Joe Lynn, FCLC ’09, the game was more of a warm-up rather than the team being at full strength.

“Not much happened really,” said Lynn when remarking about the game, “We were just rusty.”

JCRV started the game with a few new faces on the field from last season. Mike Marra, FCLC ’09, and first-baseman Erik Thompson, FCLC ’12, are two of the new faces. Both were able to make strong impacts in their first game of the season.

After being away last season due to studying abroad, Marra provided the offense a shot in the arm by hitting a solo home run in the game. Thompson started his first game at first base for JCRV. A new recruit to the team, Thompson immediately made his presence felt with a strong defensive showing. JCRV held on close until the top of the inning. With the bases loaded, the Rascal Crew cleared the bases with a 3-run triple which put the nail in the coffin of JCRV’s comeback chances.

Despite losing their first game, Lynn is confident the team can take the loss and build on their prior successes.

“We’re just looking to get back into the swing of things and get into a groove,” Lynn said.
