Delete Blood Cancer DKMS will be hosting a bone marrow drive at Fordham College at Rose Hill (FCRH) in the Rose Hill Gymnasium at 441 E. Fordham Road on Oct. 24 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., in order to find a potential bone marrow match for 20-year-old Nancy Parmar.

Parmar, a student at Brooklyn College, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia this past summer and requires a bone marrow transplant to survive. However, Parmar has not yet found a bone marrow match. Fordham is one of several colleges that have taken part in the effort to find a matching donor for her.

When asked why the organization chose to host a drive at Fordham, Tara Schuh, head of Delete Blood Cancer’s communications department, said, “We know that college students are very philanthropic and many are looking for ways in which they can help people and change lives. With this in mind, we wanted to provide education and a call to action to interested college students to become possible life saving donors for blood cancer patients in need.”

Checkmate Cancer, an organization that helps raise money for those diagnosed with cancer, has set up a foundation for Parmar and has currently raised more than $36,000 out of the $60,000 needed to find her a bone marrow donor and to undergo the procedure for a transplant.
