In the past two weeks, The Fordham Observer was awarded with several individual and group awards. These awards came shortly after The Observer won First Place in the Four-Year College Non-Weekly category at the Associated Collegiate Press’ National College Newspaper Convention. The recent group awards were: First Place for General Design by the New York Press Association; Third Place for General Excellence by the New York Press Association; Third Place for Editorials by the New York Press Association; Honorable Mention for Photo Page Layout by the Society of News Design; Second Place for Overall Use of Photography by the Society of News Design, and Sports Photography in the Society of Professional Journalists’ Mark of Excellence Awards. The individual awards, both granted by the New York Press Association, went to Gabrielle Linzer, First Place for Best Features Article, and Luke Teegarden, Third Place for Best Features Article.

“The Observer has had an amazing run this year,” said Editor in Chief Jennie Nau. “I’m honored to be a part of The Observer and extremely pleased that it is getting the recognition it deserves.”

Adam Kaufman, Managing Editor, is thrilled by the variety of recent honors: “To see such a wide range of awards, in both editorial and visual categories, says a lot for how much this newspaper has grown as a unit in recent years.”

The Observer is the student of Fordham College at Lincoln Center. It is entirely created by a non-paid student staff on a bi-weekly basis and is advised by Dr. Elizabeth Stone, professor of English and communications.  The Observer was first published in 1981 and continues to provide a student voice within the Fordham community.

Founded in 1981, The Observer is based at Fordham University’s Lincoln Center campus in Manhattan and also reaches Fordham’s Rose Hill campus in the Bronx, making it available to over 14,000 students in the University’s undergraduate colleges and graduate schools.
