Give Yourself a Break: Favorite NYC Indulgences

Midterm week, known as one of the busiest times for students, is ending and while we are crammed with papers to write and exams to study for, we might need a distraction every now and then to get us through the week. Whether it is a sweet snack, a savory morsel or a nice, hearty meal, we all occasionally need to take a breather from all the burdens college places upon us.

Juliana Pollina, FCLC ’17, and Karlyn Bearchell, FCLC ’17, recommend s’mores cookies from Insomnia Cookies. “You will fall in love with the marshmallows cooked into a chocolate cookie!” Bearchall said. “When I am studying at night in hunger, Insomnia Cookies is there for me because they are open until 3 a.m.,” Pollina added.

Andreea Chidu, FCLC ’17, recommends the frozen hot chocolate from Serendipity 3. “I like Serendipity 3 for its design. It’s an Alice in Wonderland type of restaurant that soothes me during stressful periods,” Chidu said.

Daniel Stroie, FCLC ’17, often goes to Walker’s for the brunch of steak and eggs, and their free soft muffin that comes with the dish. “The steak and eggs is so delicious that you can eat it everyday of your life,” Stroie said.

Peony Tam, FCLC ’15, recommends the chicken and corn soup from Hale and Hearty. “The Chicken and Corn soup has the rich ingredients and warmth that makes you full and gives energy while you are studying. It is also a healthier choice to get soup!” Tam said.

Gary Chen, FCLC ’15, is a fan of the bubble tea from Kung Fu Tea in Chinatown. Kung Fu Tea is a mix of milk and tea beverage with toppings from tapioca to jelly. “Bubble Tea is a cheap and convenient beverage. Anything cheap and convenient can make me happy,” Chen said.

Jennifer Lei, FCLC ’17, is a fan of Chipotle. She recommends the burrito bowl because you can choose your own topping without paying extra. “You get to eat your worries away at Chipotle!” Lei said.

Dante Frontani, FCLC ’16, loves the chicken ranchero from Burrito Box. “Consuming a big Burrito Box balances my stress especially when I am studying and hungry. It gives me the most amount of food.”

Elana Tee, FCLC ’17, shared her favorite indulgence: making a trip to Café Lalo. She recommends their Bucket of French fries, chocolate milkshake and keylime pie. “The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere and is furnished in a classical way that makes me feel relaxed. It is a great place to treat myself [after] all of the hard work.,” Tee said.
