Fordham Faculty to Hold Emergency Fora

By HARRY HUGGINS

The Fordham Faculty Senate will be holding an emergency fora on Wednesday at the Rose Hill campus and Thursday at the Lincoln Center campus on salary negotiations and governance. According to Executive Faculty Senate Committee Member Joel Reidenberg, the emergency fora comes after faculty were unable to reach an agreement with the university on salary raises. The fora also comes in the midst of issues surrounding the faculty’s involvement in planning for Lincoln Center’s future in the new law school.

A brochure circulated by the Faculty Senate put the faculty’s issues in monetary terms. According to the brochure, Fordham generated about $15,000,000 more than expected “mostly through tuition,” but the Fordham administration refused the faculty’s salary increase proposal of a 3.3 percent cost-of-living increase and a $1,200 merit increase for half of the faculty. The brochure said that these increases amounted to a $56,000 increase over the administration’s offer.

The Faculty Senate hopes to solicit ideas from the faculty on how and what the senate might do to address these issues in upcoming months, according to Reidenberg. The Rose Hill meeting will take place Wednesday Nov. 7 at 3 p.m. in Walsh Library’s Flom Auditorium, and at Lincoln Center’s LL 816 at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8.
